Most homes are not ready for buyers as soon as they are listed. In most cases a REALTOR can give advice on what areas of the home are in need of TLC to be sure the home makes a great first impression to potential buyers. Curb appeal is a home’s first impression and can often make or break a buyers interest in a property. The following is a list of items that should be given consideration when putting a home on the market and trying to make that great and oh so important first impression.
- Interior walls should be neutral colors and free of marks or stains
- Closets should be cleaned and organized to allow full view of the space available.
- All fixtures should work properly and all burnt out light bulbs should be replaced
- Leaking faucets, squeaky doors, torn and missing windows screens should be repaired
- Mow and water lawns and flower beds to keep them looking there best
- Remove weeds and plant extra flowers or shrubs to fill in the gaps
- Prune all trees and shrubs to have them looking their best
- Clear out all debris from the yard areas
- Cover exposed dirt with bark or gravel
- Remove any moss and branches from the roof and gutters
- Repair broken fences and clear debris from the decks and porches
- Repaint worn outside decking ect.
- Keep all walkways clear to allow free movement to all perspective buyers
- Organize and declutter the garage, shop and sheds
- Remove any old vehicles and appliances from the property
- Remove and organize clutter from all rooms, especially the kitchen
- Replace outdated and worn carpets and wallpaper
- Replace outdated hardware on drawers and cabinets
- Oil squeaky doors and tighten any loose boards on all decking
